I'll be back after nearly 5 months of inactivity, in which I devoted mostly to studies, to make an important announcement.
fact have finally reached a first milestone in the university, which is the first degree. This leads to a number of consequences: firstly, the enormous sense of liberation, secondly, the long holidays (not having exams to come back in September at the Lingotto in mid-October only!). Another important issue is a popular "vote" that I made about a year and a half ago, namely: "When will the first degree change my body." Actually not really a change, but to accompany them. In fact, my trusty D40 has a monetary value so low that it would be worthwhile to sell it, because I prefer to have a second body to use in "difficult" situations, or to be attached to the first with another goal, rather than having to € 150 in your pocket more.
said that I announce the purchase of a wonderful Nikon D300s, which will accompany me, I hope, in coming years.
The level of the two machines is vastly different between the two there is only one step, but at least 2 or 3. I made this choice to have a solid and robust, with more features that I missed on the D40:
- AF motor built, I can finally Use the AF 50 1.8!
- functions accessible through buttons on the camera body: to change almost every setting on the D40, you had to enter the menu screen or the Info A waste of time, in fact.
- pentaprism viewfinder with 100% view. The D40 has a Pentamirror display with less than 100%, I have often found objects in the photos that I had framed ...
- Reactivity top: with the D40, sprinting sports, you must anticipate the moment that you want to take the D300s but is very reactive and can "go without fail."
- Cadence in continuous shooting: allows the D40 2.5fps, very few. The 7fps of D300s are suitable for every need.
- CMOS sensor: it allows less noise at high ISO, I can now shoot at ISO 3200 without colored dots scattered throughout the image. From a first quick analysis it seems that the newcomer has about 1 stop less noise. Plus I can get up to ISO 100 and go up to ISO 6400, in cases of extreme necessity.
- Aufotocus fantastic: I'm still learning to use it, but to have 51 points of focus instead of 3 is a real pleasure! It's fast and accurately, even in low light.
- can use AI lenses: the Nikon film use a pair of non-CPU lenses, and with the D300s I can shoot with the help of the exposure and flash.
- Photography spaced: I have always been fascinated by the video produced with this technique, and the D40 does not have the opportunity to take photos with the Interval timer, unless you use a laptop connected via usb.
- CLS control with built-in flash: so I can use the SB-600 separated from the car, and driven by the flash integrated in the machine
- The 12 Megapixel not really interest me that much, some of the detail than the D40 is greater, but the files are huge, and I think that soon will fill the hard drive dedicated to backing up photos ... The drawing is more expensive: I tried, out of curiosity, to assemble an overview of 5 or 6 shots. I have 16-bit TIFF size 71MB each, and the complete picture is really big.
- The video does not believe a vital role, but still interesting. I have not thoroughly tested this feature, but I think the creative possibilities offered by optical cameras is enormous.
In my choice I did not consider the D90, because it certainly has a better body and D300s function: 100% viewfinder, magnesium alloy body and tropical conditions, reactivity and higher gusts, Interval, support for AI lenses, more controls directly on the body.
I have discarded the D700 mainly for the cost, but also because I have no goals at such a sensor, especially the wide angles. I think that in a few years I'll get the full frame, but for now I do not feel the need too.
For now I have less than a couple of weeks during the holidays spremerò the right, and begin to make direct comparisons and testing with the goals I have.
I can not wait to try photographing a rally or a football game!
